THOMAS SCHEYTT
Scheytt is one of the busiest musicians in the European blues and boogie scene. For over 20 years he has been a guest in jazz clubs and at festivals at home and abroad, not only as a soloist, but also with his formations Netzer&Scheytt and the trio Boogie Connection .
Invitation To The Blues and Tribute To Meade Lux Lewis , two pieces from Scheytt's solo piano CD Inner Voices , have been played regularly on Deutschlandfunk for years. He has another 12 CDs available.
The appreciation that he has earned through his concert activities, his compositions and his CD recordings is expressed in awards such as the Audience Award 2000 from the SWR (together with Ignaz Netzer) or the Freiburg Music Prize 2003. In 2011 he received one Nomination for the German Blues Award in the Best Piano category .
“One of the “blackest” white-skinned boogie and blues pianists comes from Germany’s southern states, Freiburg in southern Baden. In his playing, Thomas Scheytt combines high pianistic skills with an incredible, heartfelt variety of expression. In contrast to many boogie pianists who want to impress with particularly fast pieces, Thomas Scheytt shows his sophisticated playing culture and his unusual feeling, especially in slower blues pieces. He also proves to be an excellent blues and boogie composer. Half of the pieces were written by him; They reach the level of American role models.” Jazzpodium Germany
With his 3rd solo CD, Thomas Scheytt was nominated for the “German Record Critics’ Prize” in 2014.
He gained great reputation by winning the German Blues Award 2015 twice in the categories “Best Piano” and “Best Duo”.
